Race Weekend Recap

Max Verstappen won the 2026 Mexican Grand Prix in a race defined by chaos and post-race adjustments. The Red Bull driver held off a late charge from Lewis Hamilton, securing a win that was not merely a gift but a result of superior race pace management. The event was marked by multiple penalties that significantly readjusted the championship standings after the checkered flag.

While Verstappen took the victory, the weekend was a mixed bag for Ferrari. Despite having the fastest race pace, the team lost a potential 1-2 finish due to strategic errors and incidents, including Charles Leclerc’s tyre damage and the impact of a red flag on their strategy. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, meanwhile, sealed the 2026 drivers' title during this round, capping off a dominant season for Mercedes.

Haas Driver Swap Rumors Rumors from the paddock suggest that Jack Doohan is tipped to replace Esteban Ocon at Haas for the upcoming São Paulo Grand Prix. This potential change comes as teams look to finalize lineups for the final races of the season.

Ferrari's Internal Struggles The "winners and losers" of Mexico highlighted internal team implosions at Ferrari. The analysis suggests that penalties and post-race changes meant there were significantly more losers than winners from the Mexican weekend for the Scuderia.

Strategy & Technical Insights

Pace Parity and Narrow Margins Race pace analysis revealed that Max Verstappen led the Mexican GP rankings by a mere 0.061 seconds over Lewis Hamilton. This razor-thin margin indicates that Mercedes' 2026 advantage is narrowing, with Ferrari now matching Red Bull's raw speed.

Tyre Strategy Decisions Ferrari's loss in Mexico was attributed to two critical moments that altered the tyre strategy battle. A red flag disrupted their planned pit windows, while Leclerc suffered tyre damage that forced a reactive strategy, allowing Verstappen to capitalize on the confusion.
