Japanese Organising: KonMari, Muji-Style and Decluttering — 2026-10-19
Muji Autumn Weekly Sale Confirmed for Late October
Travel Watch reported that the "Muji Weekly" (Muji Shūkan) for Autumn 2026 will officially begin on October 23, offering 10% off all products. This annual event is a critical period for Japanese consumers to stock up on organization essentials, storage boxes, and cleaning supplies at a discount. The announcement includes a staff-picked list of recommended items, which often dictates seasonal buying trends for decluttering and home organization in Japan.
Housekeeping Association Reports Record Organizer Certifications
As of October 2026, the Japan Housekeeping Association (JHA) reported that the cumulative number of certified "Seiri Shuno Advisor" (Organization and Storage Advisors) has reached 222,605. This includes 205,350 Level 2 holders and 17,255 Level 1 holders. The steady growth in certified professionals reflects a sustained demand for professional organizing services in Japan, moving beyond DIY methods like KonMari toward regulated, expert-led consulting.
Danshari Method Gains International Traction
Recent reporting highlights the "Danshari" method (refuse, discard, separate) as a more rigorous evolution of Japanese minimalism compared to Marie Kondo’s KonMari. While KonMari focuses on "sparking joy," Danshari is described as a tougher, more philosophical approach to preventing clutter from returning. Articles published in late 2026 suggest this method is gaining prominence in Western media as a sustainable alternative to aggressive decluttering trends.
